Last year, I had the pleasure of attending Worldcon in Seattle, Washington. I was honored to be panelist in a discussion about “Big Brother is Watching.” Fellow authors, David Brin, P. I. Stuart, Ray Nayler, and Lauren C. Teffeau. Were fantastic and made it easy to have a lively discussion about the role of science fiction in the encroaching reality of government surveillance.
Aside from this discussion, I was also on a panel about the everlasting influence of The Wizard of Oz. And finally, I moderated a panel on Pitch Writing where the panelists and I discussed the dos and don’ts of writing a pitch and then opened it up to the audience for some on-the-spot feedback. I was impressed, not only with the talent of authors present (there were some really great hooks), but also in the bravery of the attendees. It sure is hard to stand up in front of a crowd and pitch your work. These authors were incredible.
And finally, I was able to do a book reading of my novel, Her Gilded Voice. I had some family there to support me, which was great. And some attendees dropped in to listen and buy some copies, which will never not be humbling. I am so very appreciative of anyone willing to take a chance on my work.
After the book reading, I did a book signing and sold out in an hour. It was an incredible experience.
Now, with the next Worldcon right around the corner (this one right in my backyard near Los Angeles), I hope to have a table in the dealer’s room where I can meet lots more readers.
